This mammoth book, looking like a slab of brutalist concrete, is a celebration of the undercroft - 'The home of UK skateboarding'. From its early use by skateboarders in the 1970s to its current state it provides a complete history of the undercroft and the constant battle to keep the spot open. Southbank has evolved into a community hub, shaped by generations of skateboarders, BMX riders and graffiti artists. The name of the book comes from the campaign that was started in order to save the spot from redevelopment in March 2013 and was successfully saved in September 2014.
The irony of the recent Skate 50 exhibition at the Southbank Centre lay in its celebration of skateboarding by an institution that had historically resisted and opposed it, despite the culture and community that had developed there.
