Originally form the Netherlands, Marcopoulos moved to New York at the end of the ‘70s. Out and About covers his photographic activity in New York, spanning from images of underground artists and celebrities of these times, to the snapshots documenting street life and the telling portraits of Marcopoulos himself, his wife and his children.
He notably photographed the skaters who frequented the original Supreme store with many photographs taken at the Brooklyn Banks. This was around the time when KIDS by Larry Clark was being filmed and many featured such as Justin Pierce, Harold Hunter, Javier Nunez and Jefferson Pang. The book finishes with a poignant photograph of Ground Zero, with the 9/11 attacks being the beginning of the end of New York being the hedonistic playground that it was in the 1990s.
