Wim Wenders: Pictures from the Surface of the Earth brings together large-scale photographs taken by Wim Wenders during his travels across the globe. From panoramas of the American mid-west and Australia’s vast interior, to colourful city vistas and streetscapes taken in Havana, these images suggested a sense of voyaging, of exploration and a commitment to the physical experience of being ‘on the road’.
Wenders’ camera also explored interiors, from a hotel lounge room in the mid-west states of America to the serene spaces of a Japanese temple. In November 2001 he visited the site of the World Trade Center, New York and produced an extraordinary series of photographs from Ground Zero.
