Fumiko Imano grew up in Brazil and then lived in both Paris and London. After moving to Japan she felt alone and that she did not belong. She addressed to tackle this identity crisis and loneliness by creating an imaginary twin who has been a constant feature in her work.
 
Using collage she adds her imaginary twin to the original photograph. In her own words: "If I have a twin sister, I won’t be lonely, and I will be happy living in any environment together."
